Metronidazole is an antibiotic and antiprotozoal medication. It is used either alone or with other antibiotics to treat pelvic inflammatory disease, endocarditis, and bacterial vaginosis. It is effective for dracunculiasis, giardiasis, trichomoniasis, and amebiasis.

Mechanism Of Action
Metronidazole diffuses into the organism, inhibits protein synthesis by interacting with DNA and causing a loss of helical DNA structure and strand breakage. Therefore, it causes cell death in susceptible organisms.
Dosage – 15 – 20mg/kg/day 8 hourly
Max dose – 1200mg 24 hourly
Used As – Antiamoebic, Antibiotic
Contraindicated – Not Safe in Pregnancy
