Mechanism Of Action
Domperidone is a prokinetic & specific blocker of dopamine receptors. It speeds gastrointestinal peristalsis, causes prolactin release, and is used as antiemetic and tool in the study of dopaminergic mechanisms.
Dosage
Infants & Children – < 12 years & weight < 35kg
0.25 – 0.5 mg/kg/ Tid or Qid or 0.2 – 0.4mg/kg/day/dose 4 – 8 hourly
Max – 2.4 mg/kg but not to exceed 80mg/day
= > 12 years & weight => 35kg
10ml – 20ml Tid or Qid
Max – 80ml/day or 80mg/day
Used As – Nausea, Vomiting, sea sickness
Contraindicated – Not considered safe in Pregnancy
* cause Fatal cardiac arrhythmia in cardiac patients so banned in America
